My wife, Camille, was carrying our first child. During her pregnancy, she was monitored by the physiotherapists at Thérapeos, who helped relieve her lower back pain and prepare her body for childbirth. These sessions were a precious moment for her: they helped her relax and gave her confidence in her ability to give birth.
But despite this, the delivery was more complicated than expected. Camille was induced at 41 weeks, and after 18 hours of labor and a lot of effort, a vacuum extractor was needed to help Ana come out. Camille was exhausted, and although she was happy to finally hold our daughter in her arms, I could see that she needed time to recover.
The first few days at home were difficult. Camille struggled to recover physically: she had pelvic pain and a feeling of weakness in her perineum that worried her greatly. Fortunately, three weeks after giving birth, she resumed contact with her physiotherapist, this time for postnatal rehabilitation.
These sessions were a breath of fresh air for her. Her physiotherapist helped her better understand her body, gently work on her posture, and regain mobility that gave her back her confidence. It was also a time when Camille could talk about her feelings without judgment, which helped her overcome some of her anxieties.
For my part, I took care of Ana so that Camille could focus on her recovery. During those weeks, I took over as much as possible, but I saw that these moments of rehabilitation were doing her as much good mentally as physically.
Little by little, Camille regained her strength. The progress she was making thanks to physiotherapy gave her the courage to become more involved with Ana, and every smile from our daughter was a victory.
These experiences have taught us that asking for help, whether from a professional like a physiotherapist or from those around you, is essential.
Being two mothers is an indescribable joy, even if the road to get there can be fraught with obstacles. Camille often says that physiotherapy has been a pillar of strength for her, and I can only be grateful to have seen my wife regain her radiance thanks to this support.
